What Ethical Design means to me
As a graphic designer, I have been conscious of a tension in my own mind between designing for companies that want to sell, and not being at ease with the consumerist landscape that we live in today.
How can I be passionate about selling? Over the years, I have spent a lot of money on “stuff” and I have learned that it doesn't always bring you joy. The key to unlocking my passion was my focus on ethics.
Since starting this business, I have found a majority of people who have contacted me have a really strong ethical standpoint. Ethics are at the core of what I do and I pride myself in my ability to communicate the values of a company though my design work.
As a logo and brand designer, I am now focusing on creating aesthetics for companies that value their ethics over their bottom line.
To me, ethical design is the process I go through to help companies and organisations to communicate their values. The resulting design work helps them to make a positive impact, and by being a part of that, I believe I am making a positive impact too.
